ABSTRACT

In recent years, a growing majority of citizens have resided in densely populated urban areas, often disconnected from the natural environment. As a result, opportunities for psychological restoration may primarily depend on the quality of window views. This study aims to present an integrated approach to the evaluation of view quality in line with established standards EN 17037 and LEED, while also measuring the distinct urban features observable from the inside and generating panoramic visual simulations of possible views, based on the detail level of the 3D model. The analysis focuses on a selected area of London, examining office spaces situated on various floors within four four-story buildings positioned along streets of varying widths. The analysis was conducted from the eye level of an average standing person, positioned at a height of 1.7 meters above the floor. Simulation outcomes demonstrate that window view quality varies significantly between the first and fourth floors across different urban configurations. Moreover, the findings reveal that the highest view quality is observed from the fourth floor of the building facing a 20-meter setback, representing the most favorable condition. In contrast, the lowest quality is recorded on the first floor of a building with a 9-meter obstruction, indicating the least desirable scenario.
